Supercar - Three Out Change!! (1998) ALBUM REVIEW

 Three Out Change Cover

Supercar's first album is probably their most 'consumer friendly' CD. Three Out Change!!! stands out of the rest (Other Supercar albums), because its simple and straight to the point. Warmhearted rock, in vein of 90's garage/british rock, with a cheerful ambience, overflowing with youth juice.

The CD starts with their first single, and arguably the best track on the album, Cream Soda, the guitar melodies are catchy, the beats are easy, it's barebones, and we all love it. No Fancy guitar Solo's or crazy progressive drumming, just good clean rock. Koji's airy voice provides are sighful smile and Miki's back up vocals adds that sugar it needed. The next notable song is a 'Miki', Drive, pure acoustic guitar (except for the guitar riffs 2mins into the song), good track, clean young vocals, it's that friendly, it was used for a dorama theme back in the day. U is another of one Koji's songs with remind us of their (long gone) grunge roots, that and the rest of the album's other "not that impressive" tracks. Lucky though, is one of the best tracks in TOC!!, an interchanging duet of Koji and Miki, with minimal tempo, and lovely Junji + Koji guitars. One of the reasons with i truly love Supercar. Then, we are treated to some more "not worth mentioning songs",  but i'll still mention some, for it tells something. Sea Girl, My Way, and Trash & Lemmon are songs with tells us, Supercar is trying out different styles, from punk, to surf rock, to more garage boredom. Then, we are saved by Planet, a giddy downtempo rock song, with violins to provoke that melancholic side in all of use. Nice song, *smiles*. More average songs, then it's finally Trip Sky. The Last track in the album, but definitely one of the best, it clocks are 6:09mins, it's their first true drama-epic song. It stands out, simply, because.

Being their first album, i forgive them for having a meaty 19 tracks, with only a handful worth mentioning, it proves that Supercar didnt start out as the geniuses they are (were, in this case). A pretty good album, espically or those stuck in the 90's (like me), espcially for an unknown band from the apple fields of Aomori. Most listenable to those still not open to the real Supercar that they would evolve into, in their succeeding albums. Listen to it, it's neat-o.

PS - their album name, Three Out Change!!! refers to the Baseball rule.
